Well ...

My laptop, IBM ThinkPad T42, was taken to IBM ServiCenter for repairing, and I have no computer to use from yesterday afternoon.

I took an pretty old IBM ThinkPad T40 from office and installed Ubuntu Linux 6.06 LTS on it. The installation took less than half an hour and update needed almost 3 hours to complete (downloaded more than 147MB data from Internet).

Using Ubuntu Linux is the very much a pleasure to me, as I was expecting connecting the laptop to WiFi would be something very difficult - actually it took less than 30 seconds! That's really very easy - I do not understand why there was an article saying WiFi part was not doing good on Ubuntu. I will say it is even much more easier than so-called "Zero Administration" WiFi on Windows XP.

Since all software on Ubuntu is free, and you can freely install any components or even redistribute the software, I could easily add or remove components from the system. I installed the base system using CDROM disc, and added a number of packages from Update Manager, which was connected to Internet.

If you are a Microsoft Windows fans, you might not like it. Interface is diferent, even it is not easy to find out how to enable the SCIM (Smart Common Input Method) for Chengjie IM.

However, if you are only need a computer strictly for web pages, documents, some graphics, Ubuntu is really enough! And most importantly, it is free and come with technical support service.

So, why not?
